How We Turned an Old Ikea Unit into a Stylish Pedicure Station
Who knew that Ikea could be a secret weapon in the world of pedicures? Well, we certainly didn’t until one chilly January day when inspiration struck, and we decided to transform our dreary old sofa into a sleek pedicure platform. As nail technicians with a vision for innovation but limited carpentry skills (except for our resident Technology Teacher, Sian), we embarked on a journey to create a compact yet functional stylish pedicure station that would elevate both our salon and our clients’ experience.
The Genesis of an Idea
On that fateful day, as rain pelted against the windows, we pondered the possibilities of optimising space and ergonomics in our salon. The idea of a dedicated pedicure platform emerged as a solution to save space and alleviate strain on our backs. But where to begin? Cue Sian, armed with her knack 
for problem-solving. We needed a pedicure treatment station suitable for and strong enough to hold 2-3 clients.
The Ikea Revelation
Rummaging through our stock room, we unearthed a forgotten Ikea Expedit (now Kallax) cabinet. Eureka! It was the perfect foundation for our project. We sketched out our idea and began the project. With a limited budget of under £100, an Ikea trip to Cardiff became our next destination. We needed additional units to build the station out for client’s feet to rest on. In addition to this, we needed to reinforce the unit to ensure it remained safe. It’s amazing how, when you think outside the box (or in this case cube!) you can create anything!
Crafting the Solution
Armed with angle brackets and a dose of creativity, we set out to transform the humble cabinet into a stylish pedicure station. Sian ingeniously connected the units, reinforcing the outer cubes with shelves and the inner ones with supports for added durability. Every detail was meticulously planned to ensure functionality and aesthetic appeal. As the new, stylish pedicure station took shape we knew we were onto a winner. The result, a sturdy, creative but practical station.
Monotone Magic
At Nail Divas, consistency is key. Embracing our signature monotone aesthetic, we curated accessories that seamlessly complemented the pedicure station’s sleek design. From comfortable black cushions to create the seating area, to black and white towels. The end result? A stunning new addition to our salon that not only enhances the client experience but also streamlines our workflow.
